The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association & Hall of Fame (NSSA) announced their 2013 National Sportswriter of the Year Award this week. The award went to Peter King. The honor marked the third time in four years the longtime Sports Illustrated football writer and author won the honor (2010, 2012 and 2013). King is now the senior editor and writer for Monday Morning Quarterback.

The NSSA also announced the winner of the 2013 National Sportscaster of the Year Award: Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick. Emrick learned of the honor during NBC’s live broadcast of the Winter Classic hockey game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings on New Year's Day. Goren said he was "speechless." Emerick is a veteran of 40 years of hockey play-by-play announcing, including more than a quarter of a century providing play-by-play of the National Hockey League.

Both Emerick and King will be officially honored during the 55th Annual NSSA Awards Weekend, June 7-9, in Salisbury, NC.
